The Mathematics Faculty of P.G. Demidov Yaroslavl State University was opened on July, 7 1976 by the order # 309 of the Minister of Higher and Secondary Education of the R.S.F.S.R. by dividing the Faculty of Physics and Mathematics into the Physics and Mathematics Faculties.
The Mathematics Faculty prepares bachelors and masters in Mathematics, specialists in specialities: Mathematics, Applied Mathematics and Information Science, and Computer Security. The Mathematics Faculty contains the Department of Algebra and Mathematical Logic, the Department of Differential Equations, the Department of Computer Security and Mathematical Methods of Data Processing, the Department of Mathematical Analysis, The Department of Mathematical Modelling, the Department of General Mathematics, and the Department of the Theory of Functions and Functional Analysis. The faculty has a teaching and research Laboratory for Modelling and Analysis of Information Systems.
A high quality of graduates’ education is guaranteed by a high qualification of teachers and scientists working at the faculty and known for their achievements not only to the Russian but also to the world scientific community.
The faculty’s departments do research on fundamental problems of mathematics and its applications. The main directions of scientific researches are: super-algebras and supermanifolds; finite groups; finite groups representations; combinatorial and algorithmic problems of groups and semi-groups; and combinatorial geometry and topology; coding theory; functions approximations and operators interpolation; real algebraic geometry; elliptic systems of differential equations; variational inequalities; self-oscillation processes; mathematical methods of studying nonlinear oscillation systems; the theory of mapping in spaces with different metrics.
The faculty prepares post-graduate students in specialities: Mathematical Analysis; Differential Equations; Mathematical Logic, Algebra and the Number Theory; Discrete Mathematics and Mathematical Cybernetics; Mathematical Modelling, Numerical Methods and Program Complexes; Methods and Systems of Data Protection, Information security; The Theory and Methods of Professional Education. The faculty has two councils for defending candidates’ theses, there is a course for doctors in speciality Mathematical Logic, Algebra and the Number theory.
Scientific articles of students and post-graduates are regularly published. Scientific and research conferences are regularly held. International cooperation is realized in the form of teaching single students and post-graduate students and teaching and research work of teachers abroad.
